The maintenance supervisor asked for a Teflon suit. What he actually needed was a chemical splash suit with a PTFE-coated outer shell. Teflon is a registered trademark for PTFE-based products, not a suit category. The wrong material could have failed his safety audit. Liquid silicone rubber is a two-part platinum-cured elastomer that is injected into a mold and cured into a flexible, heat-resistant rubber part. It's not a thermoplastic. Once it cures, it doesn't re-melt. That's why the gasket held up where the previous one had failed.

And, because the week wasn't complicated enough, I also had to look up PET 1 plastic. The client's bottles are made from PET 1 plastic, the recycling code most people know from water bottles, and they wanted to use the Honeywell 617a polyethylene wax as a release agent in a prototyping run.
