That said, this isn't a one-size-fits-all. If you're running hose in a clean workshop with no sharp edges, a standard rubber hose might work fine. Your mileage may vary. But for framing—where the hose is dragged over studs, concrete, and sometimes rebar—the metallocene PE hose pays for itself in months.

- Check the polymer type. Look for “metallocene polyethylene” or “cross-linked PE” on the spec sheet. If you see only “rubber” or “PVC”, expect shorter life in rough use.
- Look for a brand that stands behind the material. Honeywell publishes their hose performance data (operating pressure, temperature range, abrasion resistance). A generic import might not even list polymer grade.
- Calculate total cost per month. Divide price by estimated lifespan in months. The $45 hose at 24 months costs $1.88/month. The $15 hose at 2 months costs $7.50/month. Math wins.
